In April 2010, a new statutory duty will be introduced requiring City and County Councils to undertake a Local Economic Assessment. This requires an analysis of economic conditions in the local area in order to get a more accurate, evidence based picture of the opportunities and difficulties facing the local economy. The Assessment should use the most appropriate geographical boundaries to analyse the extent of the local economy and as such will not be restricted to administrative boundaries

The Chief Executives of the City, County and District authorities across Nottinghamshire have decided to work together to produce a joint Local Economic Assessment. In the summer of 2009 the Nottinghamshire Chief Executives Group commissioned an initial ‘headline’ Local Economic Assessment ahead of the full duty coming into effect. The purpose was to get to a common point of understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the area, identify key themes for the formal duty and provide the beginnings of baseline from which to develop the full Local Economic Assessment.
Between November 2009 and March 2010, work will commence on designing the structure of the full Local Economic Assessment. A key priority will be to work with local partners in order to identify their requirements of a full Local Economic Assessment and how they can be involved and contribute
